    Hand-Bent Glass Neon Signs

Traditional glass neon transforms an approved drawing into real illuminated tube work through pattern making, heat, skilled hand bending and careful electrical assembly.

Glass neon has a physical character that begins with the material itself. Each line must be considered as tubing that a glassblower can heat and shape. The result is not a printed graphic or a flexible profile arranged to resemble glass; it is a composition made from individual tubes, electrodes, supports and an electrical system selected for that sign.

Neonita specialises in traditional glass neon in Vilnius. We work with company artwork, lettering, sketches and decorative ideas, adapting each design to the possibilities of the craft. Glass neon can support exterior advertising, shop windows, bars, cafés, fuel stations, stores, offices, public-facing interiors, homes and apartments when the complete specification matches the intended environment.

The production sequence includes design preparation, glasswork, electrical assembly and testing before the sign leaves the workshop. Because glass is fragile and specialist electrical elements are involved, dimensions, mounting, handling and the final location must be considered from the beginning.

    Step one and two

Artwork becomes a full-size production pattern

The customer begins by sending a logo, wording, illustration or sketch with preferred dimensions and colours. We review the line work and adapt it for glass where necessary. Extremely fine details, tight gaps or shapes that only work as a flat printed image may need to be simplified. The customer checks the wording, proportions, dimensions and colour direction before fabrication starts.

Once the design is approved, a full-size pattern provides the reference for the glassblower. It establishes the actual paths, curves and relationships between tube sections. Preparing at final scale is essential because the tube is shaped as a physical object; the maker cannot rely on an endlessly enlarged screen view when judging the finished proportions.

    Skilled shaping by hand

Heat turns straight tubing into the approved form

A skilled glassblower heats each tube and carefully bends it to follow the pattern. Curves and returns are made section by section while preserving a usable tube path. The craft combines control of heat with constant comparison against the drawing. The small variations inherent in hand work are part of the authentic material process, while the overall composition remains tied to the approved design.

Tube type and diameter are chosen around the required colour and construction. Neonita uses selected Tecnolux, Glostertube and other suitable glass tubes in its own production. These materials are not sold separately; they are specified as parts of the complete illuminated sign.

    Light requires a complete system

Electrodes, gas and electrical components create the glow

Electrodes are fitted and the prepared tubes are processed before being filled with neon or an argon-based gas mixture. The selected gas and any coating within the glass influence the final illuminated colour. This is why a glowing tube colour cannot be approved as though it were ordinary print ink viewed on a monitor.

The finished composition also requires suitable supports, high-voltage cable, a transformer or appropriate electronic power solution, and mounting components. In suitable projects Neonita uses SIET and F.A.R.T. high-voltage transformers and Tecnoservice, Hansen or other appropriate electronic solutions. Selection depends on the specific sign; naming these manufacturers is not a promise that every project uses the same equipment.

    Checked before handover

The completed sign goes onto a test stand

After glasswork and electrical assembly, the sign is tested as a complete system. On the test stand we check the brightness, connections and stable operation. This stage confirms that the assembled work is ready for its agreed delivery or installation step, while correct site power and mounting preparation remain essential responsibilities for the final location.

Following the final inspection, the glass neon is packed securely and delivered to the customer or prepared for an arranged installation. Traditional tubes need careful handling. If a sign must be portable or relocated later, that requirement should be raised before production so the supporting structure and transport approach can be discussed.

Use the craft where it adds meaning

Authentic neon for signs, art and interiors

Glass neon can create an expressive business sign, a distinctive shop-window element or a feature within a bar, café, office or private room. Its visible tubes and specialist construction are especially relevant when the material authenticity of neon is central to the idea. The method also suits heritage-inspired displays and art-led compositions where the glass line should be appreciated as an object.

The best design respects the nature of the tube. It does not force every tiny printed detail into glass or assume that maximum brightness is the only goal. Scale, surrounding light, safe placement, access and the wall or supporting structure all contribute to a convincing result.

    Prepare the first conversation

What to send for a glass neon enquiry

Provide the correct logo, wording or sketch, preferred dimensions and colour direction, plus a photograph of the intended location. Identify whether it is indoors, sheltered or exposed and show the nearest electrical point. If an opening, exhibition or event creates a fixed date, include it in the first message because design approval, glasswork, testing and delivery all form part of the schedule.

You can begin before every technical detail is known. The early discussion should determine what must be measured, whether the artwork is suited to glass and what installation information will be required. Production should then proceed from a confirmed visual and individual proposal rather than assumptions.

    Areas We Serve

Hand-bent glass neon is produced in Neonita’s Vilnius workshop, and Vilnius is the confirmed local area described on this website. Clients can discuss the design, intended setting and mounting needs in relation to the workshop. For delivery or installation outside Vilnius, provide the exact project location so feasibility and responsibilities can be assessed individually.
